Tank Battles
World War II was home to the biggest
and most devastating tank battles in military history. The battle of Brody was
a fierce encounter between 800 German tanks and 2500 tanks from the Soviet
Union. despite being outnumbered, the Germans won the battle.
The Germans had incredibly advanced technology. The most advanced tanks and planes helped them win a lot of fights that they got into. One example of their amazing engineering is the Tiger II. This machine of destruction was a German heavy tank introduced in 1944. This tank uses 8.8 centimeter rounds along with one to seven inches of armor and two heavy machine guns to be able to beat any allied tank head to head. This advantage is what led the Germans to take most of Europe early into the war.
Unfortunately for the Germans, their weaponry was so advanced that it took to much fuel to run them. One major disadvantage to the Tiger II was that the fuel economy greatly limited its capabilities. This left the German army with limited resources late into the war.
Today, United States army M1A2 Abrams tanks are armed with 120 millimeter shells and explosive rounds as well as 50. calibre and 7.62 calibre machine guns. They have about 900 millimeters of armor against penetrating rounds.
